beef and broccoli on a sheet pan

Easy Sheet Pan Beef and Broccoli made with flank steak, broccoli florets and soy sauce is the best way to make this restaurant classic at home! Baking instead of stir frying creates tender pieces of beef and perfectly cooked broccoli.

I’ve made beef and broccoli stir fry a ga-zillion times in my life but recently discovered the best way to make this Asian take-out favorite is to bake it. Its quick, easy and there is no frying mess to clean up. Gotta love that! You’ll want to add this delicious recipe to your go to list for weeknight dinner ideas.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 Tbs oyster sauce
  • ½ Tbs sriracha
  • 2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin or New York strip
  • 1 Tbs cornstarch
  • 4 Tbs vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbs sesame oil
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • ½ Tbs grated ginger
  • 4 cups broccoli florets

What Type of Beef Should I Use?

Let’s talk about the beef. I like to use flank steak, but other cuts of beef such as sirloin or New York Strip work well. Buy whatever is on sale!

How you prepare the beef is the most important for success. To avoid tough and chewy beef, make sure to slice it thinly across the grain.  Slicing across the grain means to cut perpendicular to the direction in which the muscle fibers run.

After slicing the beef, I massage it with cornstarch. Massage is a weird term but that’s the best description I can come up right now. The cornstarch creates a velvety texture and thickens the soy sauce later in the cooking process.

Soy Sauce Mixture

The simple sauce is made with soy sauce, oyster sauce and sriracha. I strongly recommend using low sodium soy sauce. When I used regular soy sauce, it was way too salty. You can also reduce the salt by using low sodium oyster sauce but sometimes it is harder to find.

Is Beef and Broccoli Spicy?

This beef and broccoli recipe is not spicy. The sriracha adds another dimension of flavor, but if you are very sensitive to spice, you can omit it.

What Serve with Beef and Broccoli

Brown rice
